GREEN MANUFACTURING PRACTICES AND ISSUES IN THE LOCAL MALAYSIAN COMPANIES : PRELIMINERY SURVEY


This survey is carried out to asses the current green practices in a number of local Malaysian companies. This paper aims to review the current issues of implementing green practices especially related to environmental issues in sustainable manufacturing process situation as well as the operation of the green supply chain management (GSCM) based on the survey result. The key focus of the survey is to explore the perception about current green practice and issues related to implementation. Result based on the survey data from 106 respondents from some selected companies in Malaysia indicated that there is a positive perception between the company and environment. Most of the companies in Malaysia are beginning to pay more attention about environment and green manufacturing practices. Other critical areas which were highlighted are Green Supply Chain, Energy Consumptions, Environmental Management, Waste Management, Green Logistics and Pollution Reduction. Overall the survey results shows there is a satisfactory efforts in implementing the overall Green Manufacturing Practices. More effort is needed and this is important as we are moving towards the era of IR4.0
